How our journey began
We moved to Maynards in March 2020 with our 2 children, 2 dogs and 2 cats. We decided to rescue ex battery hens from ‘Fresh Start for Hens’. Our flock soon grew from our first 20 hens and we eventually constructed a huge run in the field to house our 40 chickens and 2 cockerels.
After some consideration on how to maintain the fields we decided that sheep would help with the huge task of keeping the fields mowed, and along came our first 3 unwanted sheep.
After some research we discovered the need for homes for farm animals and thought we would put our land to good use and help where we could. The goats arrived next and before we knew it we had - llamas, alpacas and pigs at Maynards – a total of 73 animals within the first year!
The frequent deer sightings across the fields of Maynards inspired our stag logo, as we believe that these wild animals should have the same sanctuary in our fields as all our farm animals do.
We are lucky enough to have local volunteers helping out when they can and regular conservation projects whereby the local scout groups come along and help out.
Our future goal is to be able to continue rescuing unwanted and abandoned animals and to further our conservation within the area.
